Tearing the 1.8T apart!

Being a very inpatient person, I couldn't resist but tearing the new engine apart right away. Here a few stats on the new engine:

  • 1.8T with 209PS from the 2003' Seat Leon Cupra R and chip-tuned by MTM to 251PS

  • original 53.000 km

  • 6-speed manual transmission

  • K04 turbocharger with small intake manifold

I bought the entire kit from a very competent German bloke who had planed on putting this engine in a Mk1 Golf. Unfortunately for him, this never happened, which is how I came across this amazing offer.

Why tear apart an engine with only 53.000km on the clock? Well, after being through an engine swap that made me take out the engine 3 more times, I want to things right the first time this time whilst also NOT trying to save the most money. Every piece that was bound to fail at some point would be replaced and every single gasket renewed while they were still easily accessible.

In order to get the best result possible, I decided to get all the components dry-ice cleaned. The result was breathtaking! I'll let the images speak for themselves. I only had to repaint to front of the engine to get rid of the rust that the dry-ice cleaning could get off.

Now that everything is clean and 95% of the parts have arrived, it is reassembly time! But this I will show you in the next post. Stay tuned!
